Premiere: JOY - Stone (Zuri Akoko Remix)
Two of Australia's bright young things make for some sweet, sweet sounds.. Brisbane producer JOY has had a bloody bonza 2014, releasing some killer original tunes, absolutely slaying Peking Duk's Like A Version, recording THIS beautiful live recording, and just this week being named as part of inthemix's 21 Locals set to own 2015. We've been all about her since we first came across her, so when the opportunity came up to premiere this dope remix of Stone from another emerging producer in Zuri Akoko we of course jumped at the chance. Akoko's productions combine a dreamy blend of atmospheric pads and vocals, often taking turns into glitchy trip hop and downtempo, experimental beats. For proof check out her own original tune We Can from earlier this year, and of course this excellent re-do of Stone. The production is gentle, yet punchy, with a breakdown that effortlessly pulls the rug out from under your feet, and already has us digging through Akoko's back catalogue for more gold. It's e

Eglo Records Australian Tour feat. Fatima & Alexander Nut
The Eglo Records stars bring their classic soul and R & B sounds to our shores.. One of the highlights of my year was seeing London-based singer Fatima singing on the Eglo Records boat party at Dimensions Festival in Croatia; her warm, soulful croon shimmered harder than the Adriatic sea we were floating on. An Erykah Badu for our millennial generation, Fatima’s sung, and written, for some of the most future-forward producers out; a diverse range of artists that encompasses Ras G, to Teebs, Funkineven, Dam Funk, Scratcha DVA, Flako and of course, her work as the in-house vocalist for UK-based label Eglo Records, founded by Alexander Nut and Floating Points. Although she’s been in the game for years, only a few months ago did she put out a full debut, Yellow Memories, and it was worth the wait: the genre cornerstones of the album are introspective R & B, and soul; but within that framework Fatima moves from bouncy, funky jams to smooth, seductive stuff in an easy breath. Pilerats' 10 Days Of Christmas #8
A couple of sweet selections from the Noap Studio Summer 14/15 Collection.. We're feeling a bit, um, "Christmassy" so we've taken it upon ourselves to launch the inaugural Pilerats' 10 Days Of X-Mas - a different giveaway will be up for grabs each day leading up to December 25.Yes, we're aware it's supposed to be 12 Days of Christmas. But there's a limit to how much we can suck up to people for free stuff ;) The legends at WA-based menswear label Noap Studio have been behind the Rats since day dot, chucking ads in the earliest issues of the magazine (RIP), and generally lording since then. Check out an interview we did with them earlier this year HERE, along with a supremely rad exhibition they held HERE. If you're gonna sell clothes with imagery, NOAP Studio are a good example of doing it right - their Lookbooks are always on-point; awesomely shot so it's not just like you're being sold stuff, but just looking at some epic photos. Here's the press pitch for the Lookbook you're about t

Video: Tink and Timbaland, 'Round The Clock'
Watch platinum hitmaker Timbaland and teen rapper Tink's new video.. Take a look at anyone's 'biggest predictions of 2015' list and young (like young - 19) year old Chicago rapper Tink is a given. With a professional, emotional and aesthetic maturity way beyond her years, she's already got four incredible, self-made mixtapes under her belt, although has yet to release a studio album - with any luck, she'll make her studio album debut with Timbaland, one of the rap/pop game's biggest producers (Brandy, Drake, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake etc), who not too long ago signed Tink to his Epic imprint Mosley Music Group. "Being in the studio with Timbaland, it makes me just want to be better," Tink said in an interview with Noisey. "When you're in the studio with Timbaland, you really bring your A game."  Up until now, Timbaland's been teasing us fans with snippets on his Instagram of himself and Tink in the studio, and clips of him listening to new Tink material in his car, but recently

New Music: Teki Latex - Zodiac (Motez Edit)
Housemaster Motez drops a new edit and announces a massive world tour.. A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of watching one of the smoothest cats in Australian electronic music, Motez, throw down a v-large B2B set with Howard from Disclosure at the World Bar as part of Sweat It Out's showcase night during EMC Play. Sometimes B2B sets feel like each person is just trying to one up the other, but this one just felt like two dudes with a massive collection of quality tunes having a very very good time spinning them together. It was part of a huge year for Motez, whose been releasing some killer originals, getting named Stoney Roads' inaugural Producer Of The Year, and just had a recent stint in the US. Today he's announced (via the Stoney lads) that he's headed back overseas after a few Aussie dates (including our own Wonderland this weekend), and dropped a tasty little edit of Teki Latex's Zodiac: UPCOMING AUS' SHOWS: Dec 19 - Factory, SUNSHINE COAST, QLD Dec 20 - Wonderland, PERTH

New Music: Porter Robinson - Years of War (Golden Features Remix)
The Golden Features goose has laid two golden eggs today; a remix and an original.. Golden Features entered the music scene as a storm-cloud of mystery in February of this year, attracting the curiosity of music commentators everywhere, who began penning speculative articles (Golden Features Is Big In Australia Right Now – But Who Is He?) It didn’t take long for that cloud to crack open (Golden Features reveals his secret identity!) and for Sydney producer Tom Stell to rain down showers of tantalizing electronica upon us; as 2014 progressed, Stell continued to drench us with moody bass and strike us with lightning hooks: Tell Me, Guillotine, Factory... throw in a bunch of incredible audiovisual shows at festivals and clubs across the country and as we near the end of 2014, Stell’s indelibly carved a strong statement in the Australian contemporary electronic landscape. Someone whose always backed Stell from the beginning, and was one of the first to say the Golden Features EP was "aweso

Video: Electric Mantis - Flips and Flops (Ego's Where The Wild Things Are AV Edit)
It's an visually treat that's only sweetened with the chopped re-work style.. Visual connoisseur and sample extraordinaire DJ Ego is a master of bringing together weird and enjoyable sounds into one noisy mix of passion. Alongside a good dose of eye candy to measure. Just take this edit of Bound 2 featuring Kanye West's video clip mixed into Seth Rogan and James Franco's parody. He's also just released an audio-visual re-work of Electric Mantis' Flips and Flops, sampling Alt-J and Barack Obama having a testy pop. The edit is stylised around Where The Wild Things Are and the plethora of moving and still images from it is a visual treat. This track is the first from Between Dreams, a video mixtape that Ego plans to release in January 2015.  TOUR DATES 10 Jan - Flinders Social, Townsville 16 Jan - Plantation, Coffs Harbour 23 Jan - Cats, Rocket Bar, Adelaide 24 Jan - The Cliff Dive, Sydney 30 Jan - Homestead, Hobart 31 Jan - Capitol, Perth 6 Feb - Cant Say, Melbourne 13 Feb - Alhambra Lo

Video: Chela - Handful Of Gold
Chela drops an 80s' styled video for her latest track, Handful Of Gold. We've all got those places that we go to where the owner will let us get away with more than usual and know our order instantaneously because we've shown up at the store for years. There's this Indian kebab store near me that doesn't even bother asking me what I want, all I have to do is walk in the store and they know what it is I want. Chela's music video for Handful Of Gold is exactly the case as we see her pop and lock in a Taco store in the middle of the night. It has that drunk-with-all-your-friends-feeling but I don't think I've ever looked so happy at that time more extremely hungry. Either way it oozes that playful 80s' feel with some interesting fashion choices to boot.  Follow Chela: FACEBOOK

New Music: Two Can & Father Dude - Double Edge
Two Can has teamed up with Father Dude to drop a burning future R & B track titled Double Edge.. Two Can have teamed up with singer Father Dude to drop some searing hot future R & B in the form of Double Edge. The track appears on the Hegemon SoundCloud, which also features songs from Just a Gent and GRMM, giving Double Edge a stamp of authenticity before it's even played. The merging of the soulful vocals of Father Dude and the future trap-orientated sound of Two Can makes you sit up and pay attention. Indeed, the melodic piano keys that leads into a trappy breakdown are complimented by the sugar-sweet vocals of Father Dude. And if you're digging the song you can also download the track for free HERE.  Follow Two Can: FACEBOOK Follow Father Dude: FACEBOOK

Video: Belle & Sebastian - Nobody's Empire
Belle & Sebastian have just released a video for their track Nobody's Empire.. Belle & Sebastian have just released a video for Nobody's Empire which makes use of pieces of archival footage, fan-sourced film, and footage from the album cover shoot. The song itself is reflective of Stuart Murdoch's medical issues and his struggles as a young man with them. It's a rather endearing piece of indie-pop, with it's the mellow tempo, a steady flow of piano keys and light licks of a guitar. And Murdoch's airy voice suits the steady change in footage especially the use of VHS footage. Nobody's Empire is taken from Belle & Sebastian's forthcoming album, Girls In Peacetime Want To Dance, which will be released Friday 16 January in Australia.
