The things people will do to turn a profit

More Justin Timberlake More Justin Timberlake

Although it's a less-widely celebrated holiday here in Australia, the annual revelry of Cinco De Mayo is almost upon our friends in the US and Mexico once more. The yearly party has its roots in the Mexican Army's unexpected victory over the French at the Battle Of Puebla in 1862, and is regarded as a deep source of pride for the Mexican people.

Naturally, then, Justin Timberlake has taken the opportunity of the arrival of this year's Cinco De Mayo celebrations to shift some tequila, while dressed as a giant anthropomorphic lime, in a new advertisement for Sauza 901, of which he is a co-owner.

There's method to all this apparent madness, of course — the ad's conceit is that happening citrus-man Rick "Sour" Vane and his fellow fruits have been happily living the high life as everybody's drink garnish of choice, until Sauza 901 comes along with its ultra-smooth flavour, or whatever, and its "No Limes Needed" tag-line and sends Vane into an excess-fuelled spiral of self-pity over his faded glory days. Perhaps most bizarrely, the whole thing works pretty brilliantly and is a dead-on parody of behind-the-scenes-style entertainment-industry documentaries, so kudos to whoever took this from (probably) cocaine-born napkin vision to fully realised creative work.

Enjoy the sight of Justin Timberlake peddling booze while dressed like living fruit below.
