West Australians are heading into 'Phase 4'

WA's Health Minister Roger Cook has today implored West Australians to use commonsense when restrictions for venues in that state ease at midnight.

As WA enters into Phase 4 of their post-COVID isolation "road map" to recovery, the state will experience big changes as to how its population can socialise from midnight.

As of 11.59pm tonight (Friday 26 June) in WA the following changes to restrictions come into force:

  • all existing gathering limits and the 100/300 rule removed
  • gathering limits only determined by WA’s reduced 2sqm rule
  • the 2sqm rule will only include staff at venues that hold more than 500 patrons
  • removal of seated service requirements at food businesses and licensed premises
  • no requirement to maintain patron register at food businesses and licensed premises
  • alcohol can be served as part of unseated service arrangements
  • unseated performances permitted at venues such as concert halls, live music venues, bars, pubs and nightclubs

However it has been reiterated that all events are permitted "except for large scale, multi-stage music festivals".

At a press conference today, Cook pointed out that "police will not be out there with a 1.5 metre ruler on the dancefloor ensuring people stay apart," but warned, "Outbreaks are possible and potentially inevitable." He added that if there was an outbreak, restrictions could be reimposed.
