Dreams really do come true

More Violent Soho More Violent Soho

Beloved Queensland rock outfit Violent Soho possibly shocked a few folks out of their armchairs last night when they appeared on Channel Nine's The Footy Show (NRL) to crank out recent single Blanket ahead of their upcoming tour with The Bronx and Luca Brasi.

Granted, the program focuses on league, not Aussie rules — but, given the current discourse about a potential all-Australian music line-up at this year's AFL Grand Final, we can't help but think that Footy Show gig could serve as the perfect little demonstration of the sorts of energy that a line-up spearheaded by a band such as Violent Soho would bring to that event. (Besides, it's not like the NRL doesn't have musical guests at its own Grand Final. Yes, sometimes they are Billy Idol, but that's just all the more reason to book a band like Soho and make up for past transgressions.)

Sure, a portion of The Footy Show's audience weren't exactly taken with the showing, with several taking the time and effort to let us all know that they've never heard of a band whose most recent album nabbed them a #1 debut on the freaking ARIA Charts (plus there was one guy who simply offered the assessment, "Crap"), but the positive buzz definitely outweighed the negative.

OK, no, not in this screenshot — but, overall, trust us, people were stoked on it.

The song itself — which is naturally taken from said #1 album, Waco — was followed by a post-performance interview with Footy Show host Fatty Vautin, which hit absurd heights pretty swiftly when he asked the band whether the rest of the album rocks as hard as Blanket. This was, however, at least somewhat mitigated by the dreams-come-true aspect achieved when guitarist James Tidswell — decked out in vintage Bronos jersey — admitted to having been a dedicated fan of The Footy Show since childhood; having the opportunity to play on the show was thus evidently a pretty wild turn of events for he and his bandmates.

Also, one of the Dune Rats was suddenly there in place of drummer Mikey Richards, for some reason. We're not complaining, it's just a notable thing that happened.

We see you. Don't think we don't see you.

Unfortunately, the powers at Channel Nine haven't made the full performance available (yet), but you can still watch a solid snippet of Violent Soho crushing it on TV via The Footy Show's Facebook page below. (Or, if you're ultra-keen, the full episode is available at Nine's website; requires sign-up.)

Tickets for Violent Soho's tour with The Bronx and Luca Brasi are available now; see theGuide for details.
