Aside from sporting one of the greatest band names we've seen in recent times, the face-melting ranks of London-bred death metal luminaries Unfathomable Ruination are taking their artistic challenges a step beyond the norm by signing up to perform in a soundproof, airtight box, just sitting there, right on the street.
To be totally fair, this isn't something the stalwart shredders have concocted on an insane whim -- the immersive art work is featured as part of the fourth instalment of annual open-door arts exhibition Sculpture In The City, which runs from July 3 until May next year (hopefully they'll be let out before then).
The marginally terrifying prospect is titled Box Sized Die, and is the intriguing brainchild of renowned Portugese artist João Onofre.
The two-square-metre, hermetically sealed steel cube makes it improbable passers-by will be able to actually see them playing a particularly “intense and brutal” set -- until their oxygen runs out -- though visitors are encouraged to watch the cube from the outside to observe the cacophony's consequent vibrations.
It all sounds a bit "Moe Szyzlak hiding behind two inches of bulletproof glass" -- i.e. guaranteed to end with loss of consciousness -- but damned if the thought of death metal blaring in a two-square-metre space while people stroll past totally oblivious isn't just the tiniest bit wonderful.
