John Farnham ProfileFollowing extraordinary demand for tickets over the weekend, The Songs of John Farnham: Living Legend - The Celebration Concert will return to HOYTS for an encore season.
The concert took place at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on Sunday (20 September) and was simulcast at HOYTS cinemas across the country. Following the success of the live broadcast, the John Farnham tribute concert will once again take over cinema screens, but with a “re-edited version” created specifically for the big screen.
Participating locations, session times and ticketing information for the encore season will be announced soon.
“When the concert sold out so quickly, we were honoured to help extend this special celebration beyond Rod Laver Arena and give fans across Australia the opportunity to experience it together in cinemas,” said HOYTS General Manager of Programming and Content, Michelle Gater.
She continued, “Demand for the live broadcast was incredible, with sessions selling out rapidly; additional screenings were added to accommodate the response from fans.
“Delivering a live broadcast simultaneously across cinemas nationally was a significant undertaking and required an enormous collaborative effort from everyone involved. It was incredibly special to see cinemas filled with John Farnham fans coming together to share in the celebration, and we’re very proud to have played a part in making that possible.”
Reviewing the celebration concert at Rod Laver Arena, The Music’s Monique La Terra wrote, “Amid all the star power and extraordinary music, the real story of the night is the remarkable affection and respect in which Farnham is held.
“More than a celebration, this was about honouring a man whose music, character and resilience have resonated with generations of Australians. Farnham may not have been in the room, but his presence was felt throughout the night.”
Performers at the tribute concert included Richard Marx, Jimmy Barnes, Tina Arena, Keith Urban, Jessica Mauboy, Diesel, Vanessa Amorosi, Jon Stevens, Jack Jones, Mahalia Barnes, and many others, plus Celine Dion and Hugh Jackman beamed in via satellite.
A surprise guest, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, also appeared via satellite with a song he’d written dedicated to John Farnham.
