'Monty Python' Star Eric Idle Plots 2026 Australian Tour

"Join me for an evening of stories, laughter and Monty Python memories," Eric Idle said.

English actor, comedian, songwriter, musician, screenwriter, and playwright Eric Idle – best known as a founding member of the British comedy group Monty Python and the parody rockers The Rutles – is returning to Australia this year.

On the tour, Idle will take to the stage in seven cities across Australia and New Zealand. He’ll share stories from his incredible life, from the great, giddy heights of Monty Python to his experiences with childhood trauma.

He’ll showcase the highs and lows as he launches his new memoir, Idle in Provence: A Brief History of Thyme. Copies of the book will be available to purchase on all dates.

The tour begins at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre on Sunday, 22 November. It continues with a handful of dates in New Zealand – Auckland’s Bruce Mason Centre on Tuesday, 24 November, Christchurch’s Isaac Theatre Royal on Thursday, 26 November, and Wellington’s St James Theatre on Sunday, 29 November – before he returns to Australia.

The Australian dates continue at Brisbane’s QPAC on Saturday, 5 December, Sydney’s State Theatre on Tuesday, 8 December, Adelaide’s Her Majesty’s Theatre on Thursday, 10 December, and conclude at Perth’s Riverside Theatre on Saturday, 12 December.

“I’m going on tour from September to celebrate the launch of my new book Idle in Provence! A heartfelt memoir of my life, mishaps and escape in the south of France,” Idle commented in a statement. “Join me for an evening of stories, laughter and Monty Python memories.”

He added, “There’s nothing quite like the connection you make with people in a live setting. It’s a dance between performer and audience.”

Idle has been involved in cultural touchstones such as Britain’s favourite funeral song, Always Look on the Bright Side of Life, and the Tony Award-winning musical, Spamalot.

Idle is expected to share candid memories of those he’s loved and lost, including beloved figures such as George Harrison and Robin Williams. It’s set to be an unscripted, in-conversation series of events that fans won’t want to miss.
