Chrissy Amphlett ProfileThe late musical powerhouse that was Chrissy Amphlett will be the subject of next week's episode of Australian Story, the ABC has revealed.
A two-part affair, fittingly titled Wild: Chrissy Amphlett, the first episode will debut on ABC TV on Monday, September 28th at 8pm AEST, with the second and final part ostensibly set to arrive the following week.
Per the description, the two "engrossing episodes" will feature "family, friends and former bandmates [as they] reflect on the highs and lows of Chrissy's wild life and her rich legacy."
Additionally, it will be complemented by previously unseen footage and three unreleased songs by Tim Finn and Amphlett, recorded in the late '90s.
Born in Geelong, Victoria in 1959, time spent as a child model and a stage actress gave way to a move to Sydney where she formed Divinyls with Mark McEntee and Jeremy Paul.
Famed not only for their discography (which boasted numerous top ten albums and singles, including 1990's chart-topper I Touch Myself), the group's biggest impact was made on the live stage. That was largely thanks to Amphlett herself, with her frenetic, energetic approach to performing paired with her onstage attire made her a force to be reckoned with.
"Chrissy Amphlett's the greatest frontwoman I've ever witnessed," recalled legendary rock photographer Tony Mott. "She had courage," added cousin Patricia "Little Pattie" Amphlett.
"Men were quite scared of me and I liked that," Amphlett herself reflected via archival footage.
While the Divinyls would initially exist until 1996, they would reform a decade later alongside their induction into the ARIA Hall Of Fame. Live shows followed, as did plans for a new record.
However, the group split in 2009, and in 2013, Amphlett passed away in New York City at the age of 59, having been diagnosed with breast cancer some years earlier.
