Last year's winners say, “Just do it.”

Registration for the 14th annual triple j Unearthed High competition has opened today.

According to the official Unearthed Instagram, "A flood of bangers is expected towards the end of July, so make sure you bunker down."

The yearly competition allows high school-aged musicians and artists to submit their own original songs for voting by the general public. The winners will receive the opportunity to record their music professionally at triple j's Sydney recording studio, as well as receiving one-on-one industry mentorship from some of the biggest names in the business.

As well as the main prize, the program offers the Unearthed High Indigenous Initiative, which recognises and champions young First Nations artists. Winners of this prize will receive mentorship from the Association of Artist Managers (AAM), and a personalised songwriting workshop from the APRA AMCOS Songmakers program.

Previous applicants have gone on to become huge names in the Aus music landscape including Japanese Wallpaper, The Kid Laroi, Gretta Ray, Genesis Owusu, and 2020 winners Teenage Joans.

"Just do it," said the pair.

"It’s such a cool competition because you learn so much from the experience and get to meet a whole heap of new friends. Through our experience we learnt so much about the Australian music scene."
