It's all happening in the world of The Reels.

More Tim Rogers More Tim Rogers

It's not very often we get to start an article with these words, but it's a pretty big morning for fans of 1980s indie rockers The Reels, with the band confirming they are to be releasing some brand new material before long, while one of Australia's current favourite rock'n'roll sons releases a cover of their biggest hit.

On the new material, the band have written a very succinct but promising Facebook update, confirming that they have seven new tunes which are pretty great.

It reads as follows:

“stay tuned for news on a brand new record…….. uncle dave and john boy cookin up a groovy storm….. 7 new original tunes…… makes quasimodo's dream sound like the archies..”

On what we can only assume is a completely unrelated note, a new video featuring You Am I frontman and decorated solo artist in his own right, Tim Rogers, singing the band's 1981 smash hit Quasimodo's Dream has surfaced this morning as well.

Rogers recorded the classic track for a new film by the name of The Boy Castaways – a stunning, genre-defying musical, which audiences around the country can see at the end of this month and beginning of next. We recently caught up with the film's director and co-writer Michael Kantor to chat about the project. You can read what he had to say right here.

The clip was shot at Adelaide's Her Majesty's Theatre and was produced and directed by Dan Koerner and Sam Haren from creative company Sandpit.
