Pop music can save lives. Not just in a metaphorical sense or as a mood lifter, but on the ground, soundtracking first aid trainers’ days as they perform CPR on people in need.
Where the beat of a classic tune like Stayin’ Alive by the Bee Gees has been used as a template for the rhythm essential to performing chest compressions, the Red Cross has conducted a new study to find a new, modern song and inspire young people to take up basic first aid – including CPR – training.
On the list of modern-day pop songs with 100 to 120 beats per minute – the pace needed to perform CPR – are ten (!) Taylor Swift songs in which someone can perform the lifesaving action, one from each album, per ABC.
Those songs are Picture To Burn (from her self-titled debut album), Love Story (Fearless), Sparks Fly (Speak Now), 22 (Red), Welcome To New York (1989), Dress (Reputation), The Man (Lover), Mirrorball (folklore), Gold Rush (evermore), and You’re On Your Own, Kid (Midnights).
As well as Taylor Swift songs, other current pop songs suitable for performing CPR include Harry Styles’ Late Night Talking, Dua Lipa’s Dance The Night, Beyoncé’s Break My Soul, and, of course, the song inspired by our heartbeats, Kylie Minogue’s Padam Padam.
In other recent Taylor Swift news, she recently released her Taylor’s Version redux of 1989, which, in a glowing review for The Music, Tione Zylstra said could be seen as “the mature older sister to 1989 (stolen version)”.
