"Having Australian music back on TV is one of the things that I’m really a champion of."

ABC's Director of Entertainment has revealed the network is "struggling to get the budget" to bring back live music show The Set for a third season.

In an interview with TV Tonight, Michael Carrington confirmed the Dylan Alcott and Linda Marigliano hosted series is one of the ABC shows still yet to be locked down for 2020.

"That’s another show that is dear to my heart… having Australian music back on TV is one of the things that I’m really a champion of," Carrington said.

"I’m really struggling to get the budget together to create more. Chris Scadden who is the head of music development is desperately trying to find a way of bringing it back in some format.

"Whether that is a shorter format for television or a bigger format for online is the stuff that we’re working on right now.”

"We're really confident and hopefully that'll come back next year," Alcott said.

Marigliano added. "Nothing in stone yet, but I think everyone wants the show back.

"We really, really want it."

In its two season-run The Set featured live performances from the likes of Amy Shark, The Teskey Brothers, The Presets, Vera Blue and Ball Park Music.
