The first time in more than two decades.

More The Rolling Stones More The Rolling Stones

The Rolling Stones' first studio album in more than a decade, Blue & Lonesome, has debuted at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart, beating local favourites Cold Chisel to the top while claiming the same prize in the UK.

The compilation of blues covers is the band’s seventh Aussie #1 and their first in more than 20 years.

The Stones' previous #1 albums in the country include The Rolling Stones (1964), Their Satanic Majesties Request (1967), Sticky Fingers (1971), Goats Head Soup (1973), Tattoo You (1981) and Voodoo Lounge (1994).

National treasures Cold Chisel’s new live LP, The Live Tapes Vol. 3, just missing out on a top 10 debut, claiming #11. The last time Cold Chisel hit #1 in Aus was during 1998 when The Last Wave Of Summer dropped.

The only other artist to crack the top 10 was Falls Festival headliner Childish Gambino with Awaken, My Love! (#9), which – along with Chisel’s latest effort - didn’t do as well as mid-week figures suggested.

Last week’s chart-topper The Weeknd has been bumped to eighth place, while and Michael Buble's 2011 Christmas LP knocks Metallica’s Hardwired...To Self-Destruct down a peg and nudges its way to #2 and John Farnham & Olivia Newton John’s Friends For Christmas holds steady at #4.

Rounding out the album debuts are handful of local favourites – including Guy Sebastian's Part 1 EP (#31), Kate Miller-Heidke's The Best Of Kate Miller-Heidke- Act One (#35) and the new EP from Sydney’s Nicole Millar, Communication - alongside John Legend’s Darkness & Light and Twenty One PilotsVessel/Blurryface.

Over on the Singles Chart, the top five remains the exact same as last week, with Clean Bandit holding on to #1 with Rockabye featuring Sean Paul and Anne-Marie, while Aussie outfit Peking Duk crack the top ten with their Elliphant collab, Stranger, moving to #8.
