Frontman and DJ included in investigation

More The Art More The Art

A Bali drugs investigation that could see a New Zealand-born tourist jailed for decades has spread to involve the frontman of Sydney rock band The Art and a DJ Marcotix.

Earlier this month Leeza Tracey Ormsby was arrested outside a villa in Kuta with the keys to the apartment, which contained a large amount of hash and MDMA. News.com.au have revealed that Bali police have asked Interpol to help them speak to The Art's frontman Azaria Byrne, who had originally rented the apartment but returned to Sydney the night before Ormsby was arrested.

Now Fairfax have indicated that 35-year-old Marco Mazzucco, aka DJ Marcotix, was arrested alongside Ormsby and questioned for 12 hours by Balinese police. It has been reported that he admitted giving the keys to the apartment to Ormsby, who was not staying at the villa.

Mazzucco, who is a co-founder of the Subsonic Music Festival and Earthdance Sydney, has since returned to Australia.

A phone number that theMusic.com.au has for Byrne was disconnected this afternoon, however he told News.com.au that he believed Ormsby was “innocent”.

“As far I know, no one I spent time with on the trip had drugs or would be involved in something like this,” he said.

Balinese police are yet to find a link between Byrne and the case.

Denpasar police Chief Djoko Hariutomo said, “We are also co-ordinating with international police, especially related to those who rented the villa. Is there any linkage with the case? We don't know. But as of now, based on the statement from the suspect [Ormsby], there is no involvement with the case.”

The case is expected to develop in the coming weeks.
