Sydney's Kings Cross Lockout Laws To Be Scrapped Next Month

Sydney's controversial lockout laws will be gone for good when the final restrictions in Kings Cross are lifted next month. .

As ABC reports, the NSW Government will scrap the legislation from 8 March in the precinct with venues, bars and nightclubs allowed to welcome crowds after 1.30am, while the 'last drinks' rule also being pushed back to 3.30am. 

Restrictions on shots and cocktails will also be removed from that date.


"Kings Cross has transformed considerably since these laws were introduced over six years ago," NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said.

"The precinct is now well positioned to continue to evolve into a vibrant lifestyle and cultural destination with a diverse mix of small bars, live music venues and restaurants."

The news comes just a year after the Government removed lockouts from Sydney's CBD and Oxford Street, however the laws remained in Kings Cross.

Former Premier Barry O'Farrell introduced the lockout laws in 2014 in an effort to reduce alcohol-related violence following the deaths of Thomas Kelly and Daniel Christie who were both king hit in Kings Cross.
