‘I Have To Go Rogue Every Single Time’: Peach PRC Reflects On The Past As She Steps Into Her New Era

Southbound Promoter On Festival’s Expansion

An extra day, more shade and sweet tunes

Yesterday’s Southbound date announcement also included good news that the music and camping festival will now incorporate an extra day into its schedule.

WA’s answer to Falls Festival, Southbound sees the masses make the commute south to Busselton one weekend early January, and now the festival site will open up on the Friday night to allow punters to settle in and party.

Promoter/director Dave Chitty told theMusic.com.au the decision to add an extra day was to ease traffic congestion over the weekend and reward punters who make the effort, following feedback from previous years.

“I think in the past – without being specific – there’s been issues with how punters have been treated over the years," Chitty said on the festival scene.

"We just like to keep our feet on the ground and listen to people who are coming along and try to improve it each year, so they want to come back.”

On top of its setting and attractive camping element, it’s such fan-feedback driven progression that sees the festival grow each year, and selling out this year was largely due to punters being able to camp next to their car.

Although demand continues to rise, Chitty said the festival will remain at a capacity of 15,000 to keep its vibe intact.

“Last year the numbers were about right for a good experience in this format. It just means that it’s not too crazy getting everyone in and looking after them.”

This year’s bill featured Bluejuice’s final ever performance as well as Vance Joy, Cold War Kids, and while Chitty wouldn’t divulge any information on this year’s line-up – which will drop in the coming weeks - it will no doubt continue in a similar fashion.

“The Southbound-Falls run will have a great bunch of acts again that are known, unknown and emerging; there’s always a great bunch of acts over the weekend, so we’re confident it’s a good line-up like it has been in the past.”

Southbound will be held from Friday, 8 January to Sunday, 10 January at Sir Stewart Bovell Park in Busselton.
