Eora-based artist Skeleten is on the cusp of releasing his sophomore album Mentalized on February 7th, but to get you there, he’s gifted his listeners with the final offering in the leadup, the delicate synth-pop track Let It Grow.
Completing the list of already adorned singles Deep Scene, Love Enemy, Viagra and Body's Chorus, Let It Grow acts as the final hour before the club closes, where the embrace of a stranger and the rising sun indicate the haze and splendour of the night prior.
Mentalized is described to explore the ways in which we’re disconnected from ourselves every day, with Let It Grow being a "dissociative surrender”, likened to an out of body experience best felt when forfeiting yourself to intimacy and connection. Skeleten’s words and visceral vocal delivery almost totter atop the sensual synth line that carries the track, taking the listener far into the depths of Mentalized.
Speaking on the way the track organically came together, Skeleten said in a press release: “Let It Grow was so natural it just kinda started existing without me even realising it. Which I guess is the whole vibe of the song. Surrender and acceptance??”
While the singles encompassing the LP have already garnered nods from Pitchfork, Stereogum, KEXP, BBC Music, FBi Radio and Apple Music’s Best of 2024 playlist, it’s without doubt that Skeleten’s latest is sure to sit comfortably alongside its companions in the lead up to the project drop. But before Mentalized can tantalise the ears of the public, Skeleten is set to complete his 3-month residency at Sydney’s Pleasure Club this month.

The residency has spotlighted local talent across the city’s thriving and vastly different music scenes, alongside Skeleten and his full live band. Having shared stages with acts like Hugh B and the Modern Pop Ensemble, Dylan Atlantis, Scruffs and Killian, there is much more to be expected when Skeleten is to take to the Pleasure Club stages one final time.
The artist is also scheduled to play Victoria’s Golden Plains Festival in March, serving as the perfect opportunity to showcase Mentalized to a live audience.
Mentalized by Skeleten is out February 7th 2025 via Astral People Recordings / 2MR. You can pre-save the project here. Check out Let It Grow below.
