Has Serato's Stem Splitter Changed DJing Forever?

With the expansion of DJing technology, we hope that the art of traditional selector doesn't go out of fashion.

There is a rising trend in DJ applications of splitting stems, but Serato have taken it to a new level, releasing their Serato Stems tool in their DJ software. The program is currently in Beta but it is free to the public to use until its offical release later this year.

The program splits a tracks stems into individual parts, allowing DJs to isolate a tracks vocals, bass, drums and melody to perform them out and make mash ups well and truely on the run. It also allows you to add effects to those individual seperate layers. The program adds a heap of new layers for DJs to be more creative with their sets, making bootlegs, remixes and mixes extremely easy and on the go.

Serato promise that their offering is different to other DJ programs stem splitters as they've developed its own algorithm to handle the separation over AI. The company promises that they've implemented a “one-of-a-kind machine learning algorithm,” that delivers, "unbeatable sound quality and performance."

DJ Jazzy Jeff has already been using Serato Stems and he states that, "There have been certain groundbreaking things that have changed in the art of DJing; the invention of Serato, not having to carry records, the invention of Phase, not having to worry about vibration in a live setting.

“I think Serato Stems will be bigger than all of them from a creative standpoint. This is about to be the most fun I've ever had DJing. I'm telling you, my brain is on fire."

While DJing technology continues to evolve, it's going to be extremely exciting to see how DJs can use this tool to make their mixes even smoother and even more creative. With it though, we hope that the art of the traditional selector doesn't go out of fashion.
