The inaugural Rock for Recognition tour, with Dan Sultan headlining, will use music to raise awareness about the need for constitutional recognition of Australia’s First Peoples.
The inaugural Rock For Recognition concerts, which aim to raise awareness about the need for constitutional recognition of Australia's First Peoples, have been announced for November.
The soulful country songsmith and sometime actor Dan Sultan will headline a excellent bill, including the Yabu Band, Leah Flanagan and DJ Ken Eavel, as it rolls through Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Fremantle.
The tour's organising partners (ANTaR, Oxfam, the National Congress and YouMeUnity) have said that many Australians have been calling for due constitutional recognition of Indigenous peoples for many years now.
The last changes to the constitution came in 1967 when more than 90% of Australians voted to recognise Australia's first peoples as part of the Australian population.
Rock For Recognition will bring together Australians from all walks of life to join a popular movement for change, with the ultimate goal being a referendum to amend Australia's constitution once more so it is fairer to Australia's First Peoples.
It will take a majority of Australian voters to effect a change, and the barriers are high. Music is essential to bringing people together and spreading awareness.
