Because the more David Brent, the better.
Fans of the groundbreaking UK comedy The Office had every reason to celebrate when show creator and star Ricky Gervais announced a feature film based on his character David Brent will be released this year, but that won't be the only way to get a fix of the Wernham-Hogg Slough general manager, with confirmation that Brent's band, David Brent & Foregone Conclusion, will be dropping their debut album this August.
Life On The Road will be available from 19 August, just a week before the film, David Brent: Life On The Road, hits Aussie cinemas on 26 August.
Directed, written and starring Gervais, the forthcoming mockumentary film follows Brent, now a traveling salesman, chasing his dream of rock stardom by self-financing a UK tour with his band. The accompanying album includes songs composed by the 55-year-old actor specifically for the film, as well as fan favourites such as Free Love Freeway, Paris Nights and Spaceman.
"Even though the songs are funny in context, they’re not comedy songs as such," Gervais said

"David Brent doesn’t think they’re funny. He thinks they’re important. And actually they’re not terrible songs. And they’re insanely catchy. But the tragedy comes from the fact that a 55 year old tampon rep is singing rock songs about travelling across America picking up Señoritas or trying to end racism in reggae songs while singing with a Jamaican accent.
"He’s also paid for the best musicians and studio time out of his own hard earned cash and pension."
