But he could still face many years in prison.

US rapper Troy Ave (real name Roland Collins) has avoided a murder charge following a shooting at a TI concert in New York last month, which resulted in one death and three injuries.

As TMZ reports, a grand jury has indicted Collins on second-degree attempted murder and four counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

Surveillance footage was released from the shooting at the Irving Plaza on 25 May, which showed Collins emerging from a backstage room and firing one gunshot towards a crowd of people.

The man killed was later identified as Collins' bodyguard, Ronald McPhatter.

"The video does not show everything nor explain what happened in the VIP room before Troy came running out, as a victim, after he was shot," Collins' attorney Scott Leemon said.

Leemons has confirmed he will ask the judge to release Collins on bail this week.
