Ever wanted to map out your next Queensland road trip in line with performances from some of the best musicians in the country? Well, now you can.

The beloved Queensland Music Trails have announced their next-level schedule for 2023, featuring performances from Lime Cordiale, C.W. Stone King, Emma Donovan and Sycco. This one-of-a-kind music experience invites punters to join the musical adventure and bask in Queensland's wonders.

Over a dozen regional and metropolitan sites will play host to bespoke music experiences that best reflect its distinct geography. This year's trails will kick off in the Outback, Scenic Rim and Southern Queensland, with more Trails to be announced later in the year.

QMF CEO & Creative Director, Joel Edmondson, says, "Queensland is a vast, spectacular and diverse place. Queensland Music Trails events will create powerful engagement with the community, culture, heritage and natural appeal of our places, so that the world can experience the beautiful truth of what Queensland is, has been, and will become.”

The Scenic Rim Trail will see the return of boutique festival, The Long Sunset, which will host beloved Aussie favourites Lime Cordiale, Sycco and Tia Gostelow. Taking place in the Elysian Fields, Canungra - the traditional land of the Wangeriburra people - the event will be awash with lush greenery and unbeatable music.

On the event, headliners Lime Cordiale commented, “We’re itching to get up to Canungra, Queensland for The Long Sunset. It doesn’t take much convincing to get us up to that beautiful part of the world! We might have to extend the trip and stay for a week, so we’ll probably bump into you at the Op Shop."

On the Outback Trail, punters will be blessed with sprawling red dirt, star gazing like you've never seen it before and a grazing plate of performances to choose from. Oasis Afternoon, Light It Up at the Outback River Lights Festival, The Big Base Party and The Sundowner in St George, Cunnamulla, Charleville and Tambo are just some of the fantastic events that music lovers can choose from. Attendees will enjoy music from C.W. Stoneking & His Primitive Horn Orchestra, Karl S. Williams, Emma Donovan and the Putbacks, Harry James Angus, Hussy Hicks, Alice Skye, The Pacific Belles and Jem Cassar-Daley.

An avid lover of the outback, Stoneking looks forward to the performance, saying, “I’m so excited to take part in Qld Music Trails and play at the WWII Secret Base in Charleville. Unlike the US soldiers stationed there in secret in 1943, I’m able to tell everybody I’ll be there in April 2023. I can’t wait to play our music in the outback. See you there!”

In addition, the Outback trail offers On The Road with The Barley Shakes Duo, where locals and trail goers can go to have a yarn or play some tunes after a long road travelled.

If you're not feeling the dry heat of the outback or the lush greenery of the Scenic Rim, The Southern Trail might be your best bet. Showcasing the best of the Western Downs region, the Southern Trail invites trail goers to meander through the Big Sky county and enjoy the classic soundtrack offered by the well-loved Opera at Jimbour event.

Whether it’s opera in a mansion, horseback riding in the Bunyas or an intimate night of chamber music, this Trail will give you a taste of the refined life with performances from Opera Queensland and Ensemble Q, among many others.

Opera Queensland CEO & Artistic Director Patrick Nolan reflects on the long-standing partnership saying, Opera Queensland is committed to sharing the wonder and joy of opera with regional audiences across Queensland. QMF and Jimbour House over many years have been integral partners in this mission. We look forward to continuing this relationship in 2023 and collaborating with Ensemble Q to immerse audiences in a program of opera and fine music making in and around the majesty and beauty of this unique location.”

Not only is Queensland Music Trails a fantastic adventure, but it's also a perfect opportunity to support the regional areas of beautiful Queensland.

Minister for the Arts Leeanne Enoch said Queensland Music Trails would deliver unique and large-scale music performances across the state, creating employment opportunities for musicians and arts workers, engaging audiences, and enhancing cultural vibrancy in communities.

“It’s exciting to see QMF partner with key Queensland artists and arts organisations to collaborate on signature cultural events that will be integrated into Qld Music Trails, including a visual arts tour with Arts Queensland funded Flying Arts Alliance, and Festival of Outback Opera and Opera at Jimbour with Opera Queensland who are also supported through the arts portfolio,” Minister Enoch said.

“Qld Music Trails align with the priorities of Creative Together, our ten-year roadmap to transform the state through creativity, and to provide rich cultural experiences for audiences.”

Don't miss out on this unique blend of Australian culture, music and art.
