Almost 15 years since their last trek to our shores, iconic Britpop outfit Pulp have confirmed their return to Australia, announcing a free show as part of the 2026 Adelaide Festival.

The 41st edition of the festival launches on Friday, February 27th, with Pulp kicking off the 17-day affair by performing at the opening night concert.

Taking place at Elder Park, the free event will undoubtedly be one of the highest-attended of the entire festival, with organisers warning that capacity limits will be in place due to the anticipation of large crowds,

The forthcoming show marks Pulp’s first in Australia since their 2011 tour, which marked their second time in the country and first visit since 1998.

Since their last Australian trek, they embarked upon a hiatus in 2013, reforming in 2022 and going on to release new album More in June – their first new record in 24 years.

No further Australian shows from Pulp have been confirmed as yet.

Alongside Pulp’s appearance at the Adelaide Festival, the 2026 edition of the annual celebration features myriad other performances in the world of theatre, dance, and more.

Alongside the Adelaide Writer's Week also taking place as part of the festival, the WOMADelaide festival will also run from March 6th-9th. Additionally, performances from the likes of The Brodsky Quartet, Boris & Merzbow, Anthony Marwood, and Tyshawn Sorey will also be part of the 2026 roster.

“It’s very exciting to be announcing the 2026 Adelaide Festival program, kicking off with the free concert in Elder Park headlined by legendary rock band Pulp!” says Minister For Arts Andrea Michaels MP.

“Adelaide Festival is beloved in South Australia and we want to make sure that as many people as possible can experience its magic. A free concert on our magnificent riverbank is the perfect way to open what is sure to be an unmissable event.”

“The 2026 Festival program invites you to lower your guard and throw yourself into an ecstatic 17 days of exploration. It does not seek to narrow to a specific theme, instead, it elevates Australian and international artists who push boundaries and embody virtuosity,” adds Adelaide Festival Artistic Director Matthew Lutton OAM.

“Yet, if you ask me about the preoccupations you might witness, you will find narratives focused on the need for love, belonging and a sense of self; the brutal barriers – some strong, some crumbling – the world hurls at us and the determination for hope, eccentricity, humanity and art.”
