G I R L gets to number one
INXS' recent reign of the ARIA Charts appears to be over - at least for this week anyway - with urban and pop music megastar Pharrell Williams claiming the number one album this week.
The Happy singer and recent Future Music Festival headliner pushed the Aus rock icons - who have enjoyed great chart success since their TV miniseries screened last month - out of the number one slot with his latest effort G I R L. The album debuted last week but was pipped by INXS' The Very Best compilation, which is this week's number two LP.
As predicted in midweek figures, pop singer Katy Perry also remained in the top chart make-up after here recent promo appearances in the country and the announcement(s) of added shows to her upcoming national Aus tour. Perry's Prism stayed at third for another week.
Glee star Lea Michele enjoyed the highest debut of the week, with her debut solo record Louder entering in at four. English alternatives Elbow also scored a fairly high first-time entry. Their album The Take Off And Landing Of Everything landed at 12. British singer-songwriter Paloma Faith debuted at 22 with A Perfect Contradiction.

There were plenty of Aussie debuts in the albums chart this week too, with Sydney metalcore act Buried In Verona scoring the highest local first-time entry with their new LP Faceless. Singer-songwriter Lior (Scattered Reflections) and indie rock trio Calling All Cars (Raise The People) came in at 23 and 26 respectively. Local Christian group Planetshakers debuted at 30 with Endless Praise while The X-Factor alum JTR scored 44th with their new album Touchdown.
Moving along to the singles chart and Pharrell came out on top again with his Oscar-nominated positivity anthem Happy, while current radio favourite Rather Be by Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne remained at two. David Guetta's collaboration with singer Skylar Grey, Shot Me Down sits at third this week and Sara Bareilles' Brave came in at four. Up and coming singer-songwriter Taylor Henderson scored the highest debut entry with his single When You Were Mine debuting at five.
Aussies Iggy Azalea and Jessica Mauboy also landed first time entries this week - Azalea's Fancy and Mauboy's Never Be The Same came in at 19 and 21 respectively. Another debut this week came in the shape of New York duo The Chainsmokers - their song #Selfie scored place 30 in the chart.
