The Project might have scored a genuinely huge scoop from the Pet Shop Boys in a recent interview, with the UK duo revealing that they’re “in discussions” to tour Australia in 2025.
Nonetheless, their new album is out today. When discussing the new LP, frontman Neil Tennant commented that the pair are happy with the reception the James Ford-produced album is receiving.
Following album talk, the conversation moved to Chris Lowe’s surprise Neighbours cameo in 1995, with The Project’s Georgie Tunny asking if the Pet Shop Boys would ever return to Ramsay Street or Australia.
Neil Tennant responded, “We’re planning to do a tour in Australia. I think maybe next year.” Tunny tried asking if any official tour dates were confirmed when Tennant said, “This interview is full of exclusives!”
He added, “What I should say is we are in discussions about coming back to Australia next year.”

It’s been ten long years since Pet Shop Boys toured Australia, with the duo playing two gigs at Sydney’s Carriageworks in June 2014 (per setlist.fm). You can read The Music’s review of their concert here.
Pet Shop Boys’ new album Nonetheless follows their 2020 album, Hotspot, and marks their return to the label home of their majestic ‘80s period, Parlophone.
The band said about the new album in a statement, “We wanted this album to be a celebration of the unique and diverse emotions that make us human. From the more dance-orientated tracks to the raw poignancy of the introspective ballads, with their beautiful string arrangements, each track tells a story and contributes to the overall narrative of the album.”
“It was great to work with James Ford, who we think has brought new elements to our music. James has dared to make us a bit more minimal at times and the final result is a record we’re very proud of.”
In October, Pet Shop Boys claimed that Drake illegally interpolated their classic single, West End Girls. The alleged instance occurred on All The Parties, featuring Chief Keef, where Drake crooned in the chorus, “And it’s 6, our town a dead-end world / East End boys and West End girls.”
The duo took to social media to express their displeasure at their song allegedly being used without permission. “Surprising to hear Drake singing the chorus of “West End girls” in the track “All the Parties” on his new album,” they wrote. “No credit given or permission requested.”
