Perth Festival & Fringe Shows Postponed Due To State Lockdown

Shows and performances featured in WA's Perth Festival and Fringe World this week have been postponed due to the state's five-day lockdown which commenced on Sunday night. 

While Fringe World kicked off on 15 January, Perth Festival was to be launched this Friday by local comedian and musician, Tim Minchin. 

Though the lockdown is scheduled to finish at 6pm on Friday, it is not yet known if Minchin's Saturday night set with the WA Symphony Orchestra will go ahead.

"Even if we could somehow just turn up & perform... the chances that 5K people will be allowed to gather this weekend are somewhere between Buckley's & none," Minchin wrote on Twitter.

"We are going to try to figure out how to reschedule! Stay tuned. And I'm incredibly sorry. Such a bugger."

In a statement issued on Sunday night, Perth Festival organisers confirmed all scheduled performances will be postponed until this Saturday, while Fringe World hopes to welcome audiences back from 7pm on Friday.

The five-day lockdown comes after a quarantine security guard in Perth tested positive to COVID-19, the state's first locally acquired case in ten months.
