Western Australia was set to receive a brand-new New Year’s Eve festival, You & Me Fest, this year, but unfortunately, the event has been cancelled.

Sharing a statement on Instagram yesterday (15 November), organisers revealed that they couldn’t put on the show punters deserve as it wasn’t “feasible.” The team behind the festival urged audiences to “please keep supporting Australian festivals and live music or they will be gone before you know it.”

You can read the full statement below.

I’m sorry darlings, You & Me 2024 is officially cancelled.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to put on the show you all deserve. I explored every possible avenue for the festival to go ahead, however unfortunately it was just not feasible.

All ticket holders who purchased through Humanitix & Tixel will receive a full refund. All tickey holders will be contacted next week via email once the refund process has been initiated.

I just ask one thing. Please keep supporting Australian festivals & live music or they will be gone before you know it.

Sincerely,

You & Me

The inaugural edition of You & Me Fest was set to be headlined by Soulja Boy, Ruel, and Hayden James over three days (29-31 December).

Other acts that were set to appear at the festival included Golden Features (DJ Set), The Veronicas, The Temper Trap, Shockone, DICE, MAY-A, COTERIE, Dameeeela, Middle Kids, Pacific Avenue, and more.

You & Me Fest also promised a variety of creative activities to experience while at the event, such as art installations and performers, market stalls, tattoos, carnival rides, and much more.

In an interview with ABC, You & Me Fest’s Founder and Director, Bailey Chalmers, cited the withdrawal of an international headliner—declining to name the artist—low ticket sales, and high insurance costs as reasons for the cancellation.

“[He] actually wasn't able to get into the country,” Chalmers told ABC of the withdrawing headliner.

“Unless you can find a replacement of similar calibre, it becomes an issue of try[ing] to go ahead with a very different show than was originally advertised.”

City of Bunbury Mayor Jaysen Miguel added, “It is disappointing another significant event has been cancelled in our region.

“But we are optimistic … more will be held in Bunbury in the future.”
