Swedish metal/hard rock pioneers Opeth have announced their long-awaited return to Australia in November 2025.
Touring in support of their forthcoming album, The Last Will And Testament, out next Friday (22 November) – touted as their heaviest album since 2008’s Watershed, marking the return of death metal elements in their music – Opeth’s 2025 national tour is as expansive as fans would have hoped.
Kicking things off in New Zealand, the band’s tour begins at Auckland Town Hall on Friday, 14 November.
From there, Opeth will head to Australia for two shows at the Sydney Opera House (Monday, 17, and Tuesday, 18 November), Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall on Thursday, 20 November, Melbourne’s Palais Theatre on Friday, 21 November, Adelaide’s Hindley Street Music Hall on Saturday, 22 November, and wrap up their tour at Perth’s Astor Theatre on Monday, 24 November.

Opeth last toured Australia in late 2019. For this tour, they’ll play sets that span over two hours and feature songs from their expansive career while highlighting the heaviness of the conceptual The Last Will And Testament.
Opeth vocalist and guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt said of the new LP, “I love this record. I have to say it (write it). Maybe I’m proud even? There are some familiar ingredients in there, I suppose. Most of our music has sprung from the same source, so I guess it’s not much of a shocker if it’s going to sound like ‘us’.
“I’m a bit in awe of what we did with The Last Will And Testament. It feels like a dream. There is some 'coherence' and 'songwriting skills' I hope, but what do I know? I tend to favour the 'strange' over the 'obvious,' but I feel like I’m in the minority, and that’s fine. So…fair warning! Don’t expect an instant rush (as per usual), but if you do “get it” (have you got it yet?) right away, that’s ok too!”
