And they're throwing a party to celebrate, of course
Five years ago, a group of mates in the middle of the country kicked off a movement with a mission: to provide a platform for the heavy metal musicians of central Australia to release, distribute and perform their music.
Fast-forward to 2016, and The Black Wreath has, from its home base in Alice Springs, cemented itself as the first word in face-melting Centralian tunes, having spent the past several spins round the sun pumping out gigs, festivals, records and other releases for their growing list of artists. If you want to get specific about it, at the time of writing, they've produced six full-length LPs and several more EPs, as well as being the masterminds behind the desert-metal mecca, Blacken festival.
The label was founded on 11 November 2011 and has been instrumental in supporting the likes of now-familiar — or at least not totally unknown — names such as Miazma, The Horror, Southeast Desert Metal, SNAKES and Digeridoomerang, all of whom are set to perform at an upcoming birthday bash for the central-Oz champions to be held on 11 November at the Gap View Hotel in the label's home town.
Those of you who dig their vibe but aren't physically able to make the show can still show your support for The Black Wreath on its fifth anniversary, as the label is releasing a commemorative 10-track album of songs — Visions — from across their artists' diverse, DIY catalogue.
