A group of three Sydney revellers have launched Sydney's first online nightclub, Room 2 Radio, in a bid to aid local artists and sustain normality in uncertain times.
It's clear that the music and arts scenes are becoming overwhelmingly impacted by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. As the severity of COVID-19 escalates on a domestic and global level, the responsibility of individual actions has the ability to have a ripple effect in this unprecedented time.
With self isolation proving to be one of the most responsible acts one can do to curb transmission of COVID-19, the Australian creative industry has become directly affected due to a number of large-scale event cancellations. As a response, a group of three Sydney revellers have launched Sydney's first online nightclub, Room 2 Radio, in a bid to aid local artists and sustain normality in this time of uncertainty.
Sydney's first virtual club will take place this Friday 20th March. There is a local Sydney lineup including Music For Friends, Hyfe, Honey Point and Liam Ebbs (Thomas Gray & Liam Ebbs) that will be live streamed from 8.00pm until late, as well as a moderated chatroom to enhance the overall connected experience.
Founded by local DJ and promoter Toby Debelak, 2SER radio host Nicole Beck and artist Charles Waldren (Poolroom.), Room 2 Radio was formed on the basis of how deeply COVID-19 has impacted music industry stakeholders. Poolroom. says, "Public health concerns surrounding COVID-19 have led to the cancellation of the majority of shows on my upcoming tour. This doesn't just reduce my main source of income, but also affects my team, the venues, support acts, accomodation, and their staff."
