The first event goes down on 25 April
Coastal communities tend to be brilliant hotbeds for fringe-dwelling, free-thinking creative types, often fomenting active and tight-knight alternative scenes among those who gravitate towards the aesthetic and philosophy of genres such as punk, metal and hardcore. It makes sense, then, that the next new monthly live-music night to hit the NSW South Coast, Pitted, should be a celebration of all such headbang-friendly things.
As a press release explains, the evening is named in honour of both the local surfing and music communities, and will become the South Coast's only monthly heavy-music night once it gets under way with its inaugural festivities on Saturday, 25 April, when Segression take to the stage.
The monthly event will be held at Captains @ Mariners, in Batemans Bay — about four hours south of Sydney — and is intended as an affordable, regular celebration of the South Coast's demonstrable love for heavy tunes and getting together to have a good time.

From an industry and performers' perspective, Pitted is a perfect stop-off point for any tour, as — in true scene style — it's pretty loose about which night each month it's held, so it's not beholden to any stringent "second Tuesday every month!"-style commitments, meaning it's well placed to shift about to help accommodate touring schedules and other logistical restraints. Heck yeah!
Tickets for the first Pitted event will go on sale this Wednesday, 4 March, via Oztix, and will only set you back a meagre $10+bf if you book in advance ($15 at the door).
Keep your eyes peeled for future announcements as Pitted returns to the South Coast each month; if you're in the area and a likely regular, swing the evening's Facebook page a Like, and see theGuide or The Music App for more details.
