"The management at The Hollywood Hotel are amazingly supportive of the recovering Sydney live music scene..."

Recognising a need for Sydney's live music scene to celebrate more local queer artists, Queer As FVck was launched, a live music collective focused on promoting and supporting LGBTQI+ artists as well as taking the initiative to get Sydney's nightlife pumping again.

Speaking to The Music, co-founder Vesna Grace says, "We have a strong feeling that despite reports to the contrary, Sydney's live music scene is entering a new life cycle, whereby artists will need to be more pro-active in taking the initiative towards creating their own professional momentum and QAF seeks to help and advocate for independent queer artists on this journey."

Grace and QAF have been in negotiations with Sydney's Hollywood Hotel to create an ongoing event night every three months.

"The management at The Hollywood Hotel are amazingly supportive of the recovering Sydney live music scene and are totally onboard with QAF being an ongoing event every three months.

"In addition to this we are in the final stages of negotiations with two other live music venues in the inner west to establish QAF residencies which is really exciting, both for us and the amazing group of artists that we have gathered around us," Grace explains.

An important facet of QAF is wanting to create events that "celebrate diversity and cultivate a deeper sense of community and inclusion for everyone involved". Grace says there will be regular events combining drag and live music, events celebrating all genders and sexualities and an opportunity for people to interact with the queer community in a non-judgemental, entirely safe place.

QAF's first event will be held on 5 March at the Hollywood Hotel on Mardi Gras weekend, with acts The Marrakesh Club, The Last Exposure, The Nu Now, Sisco Electro, La Vif and Huckleberry Hastings all set to play.

The collective will also be contributing to the upcoming Butch/Stud night at the Red Rattler on 23 February.
