New Found Glory’s Chad Gilbert has shared a series of images from the hospital and revealed that he had three tumours removed from his brain last month.

The guitarist was absent from Good Things Festival and the band’s sideshows in December while dealing with health complications, including his ongoing experience with metastatic cancer.

Now, in a recent update shared on social media, Gilbert has opened up about facing cancer treatment.

“On February 20th, I played a show in Nashville and was struggling to control the movements of my left hand,” the guitarist wrote on Instagram. “My left leg was getting weaker by the day and I started stumbling and falling at times.”

He continued, “On the 23rd I was taken to the ER where a CT scan showed 3 new tumors had appeared in my brain. On 2/27 I had successful brain surgery and have been recovering in the hospital since.”

Revealing that he’s on the road to recovery, Gilbert shared that following brain surgery, he regained function of his left hand “immediately.”

He added, “My radiation oncologist described it like this: ‘This is not a fatal blow and not the end of your story, just the beginning of a new chapter.’”

Gilbert concluded that his recovery has been “bumpy at times”, but he’s feeling “much better and getting stronger by the day.” He also stated that he’ll share more stories when his brain is “working well again.”

“My recovery has been bumpy at times but I’m feeling much better now and getting stronger by the day,” he wrote. “Thankful to everyone who’s checked in on me and helped my family during this lengthy and challenging journey.

“Can’t use my phone much yet and have a lot of messages to catch up on. More stories to come when my brain is working well again. Love you all and am looking forward to sharing more music and fun with you as we come out of this.”

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time that Gilbert has faced cancer. In 2023, he was receiving intense chemotherapy for a rare cancer called pheochromocytoma.

In a 2024 interview with The Music, Australian pop star Amy Shark revealed that New Found Glory offered her a spot on tour in 2023 to play guitar in Gilbert’s absence. Ultimately, her commitments to Australian Idol came first.

New Found Glory released their twelfth album, Listen Up, in February. Discussing the record, Gilbert said the band wanted to make music that “focused on how lucky we are.”

He explained, “We wanted to make something that really focused on how lucky we are. We’ve all gone through serious stuff in our lives, and I think the lyrics on this record are more meaningful and purposeful than ever. It’s a positive outlet that hopefully keeps people going.”
