"We believe we are ready to take the next step."

To coincide with its 10th anniversary, Mullum Music Festival's Youth Mentorship Program will return and the winners have been revealed today.

The four local acts who have won the opportunity for one-on-one rehearsals and info sessions with their mentor, a 20-minute performance at the festival and the opportunity to watch their mentor's set from backstage include Blackwood (to be mentored by Andrew Morris of The Wilson Pickers), Phoebe Nuemann (to be mentored by The Hussy Hicks), Mali Biggin (to be mentored by Juzzie Smith) and Bridge Left (to be mentored by Mandy Hawkes).

"The best way to find emerging artists is to give them a place to emerge," festival director Glenn Wright said.

"Mullum Music Festival is that place where many new musicians get a leg up and develop relationships with their mentors and peers."

Check out what the winners had to say below.

Blackwood

"We are local kids and have been playing music together since we were seven years old. Two of us are in the Lismore Youth Jazz Orchestra and the Byron Big Band in addition to all school bands. Our music is jazz/rock fusion and we are often told we are beyond our years. Having a mentor to guide us and help us achieve our dreams would be epic. We would love to perform at more events and be recognised for our originality. We believe we are ready to take the next step. We busk regularly and perform with energy."

Phoebe Nuemann

"I am super into music and have been playing a variety of instruments for a long time. I have recently started to write my own music and the song that has been entered is an original. I would like to participate in the mentorship program because I love to continuously learn and play music so any opportunity to do so I take it."

Bridge Left

"We are two long time music mates who love to collaborate and share our music. Experimenting with different instruments and song writing is our passion. The mentorship program would be a fantastic learning experience. We would soak up every minute of it. Most of all, it would be heaps of fun."

Mullum Music Festival takes place throughout Mullumbimby from 14-17 November. For more details, head over to theGuide.
