Is it January yet?
World-renowned event Mona Foma has today unveiled an absolutely stacked 2020 program, featuring more than 400 artists.
Returning to Launceston for its second year between 11 – 20 January, the 12th instalment of the festival will take over 25 venues across the city, with its music line-up featuring Slovenian industrial pop pioneers Laibach, Japanese band Chai, LA party shaman Flying Lotus 3D, masked outlaw cowboy crooner Orville Peck and Aussie legend Paul Kelly alongside Holly Herndo, Tim Hecker and more.
In an Australian exclusive, Amanda Palmer’s Confessional will see her transform thoughts, fears and stories from the women of Launceston into a new song, which will be performed live during the festival, while sound art pioneer Akio Suzuki will create a sound walk for Launceston, as well as performing at the festival.
Its art program is also packed, with international highlights including Architects of Air and Alice Pott, while locals Tarryn Handcock, Fernando Do Campo and kipli paywuta lumi also grace the program.

“Mona Foma 2020 finds us using one of the most beautiful urban nature sites in Australia — Cataract Gorge — as the backdrop for a radical reinvention of the absurdist play King Ubu by Alfred Jarry, which has been adapted to a modern-day Launceston,” Mona Foma curator Brian Ritchie said.
“We’ll be visited by musicians and artists from Slovenia, Japan, Arnhem Land, United States, Hobart and many other places. And, of course, we’ll be tying it all together with amazing food and drink — plus a talking compost heap.”
As always, the festival’s infamous after-hours nightclub, Faux Mo, will be a highlight of the 2020 event, with its line-up revealed on November 26.
