Aussie rockers Moler are back with their first new album since 1997.

Today, the band have released 69—the long-awaited follow-up to their debut album, 1997’s ARIA-nominated Golden Duck. On their first album in 29 years, Moler are louder, sharper, and empowered.

Moler formed in the Melbourne suburb of St Kilda in the mid-1990s. They dropped Golden Duck in 1997, amassing ARIA Award nominations and international acclaim. However, the excitement was short-lived, as they disbanded in the early 2000s.

In 2018, Moler reformed and released the Work EP in 2019. Since reuniting, the band have continued to rebuild momentum by touring alongside Aussie legends like Regurgitator, Custard, and Magic Dirt, while gathering radio play in Australia and abroad.

The album combines fuzzy guitars with riot grrrl attitude and genuine punk rock spirit. Moler seamlessly blend nostalgia but look to the future with a hook-filled record that confirms there’s more in the tank.

On 69, the band explore an abundance of themes. Each track began with work by an individual member before being reshaped in the studio.

Moler are firmly in 2026 when they interrogate artificial intelligence on the album opener AI, while Crimson is packed with desire; Springtime is a bright, summery smash; Proper Remote delves into paranoia and hallucinations; Sonic Waiver explores a dark, Orwellian dystopian landscape; and Roky examines love in the digital age.

You can check out the album below.

“For me, this album is about a band that don’t feel they’re done just yet,” Dave Peacock explained. “We still enjoy playing together and making music.”

Moler are now accompanied by JJ McCann (The Drones, Nunchukka Superfly). The band’s 2026 line-up isn’t just renewed, but it honours the spirit of its history. “As the new guy, I’m stoked to be part of Moler’s daring endeavour to create their first full-length album in decades,” JJ McCann said.

Helen Cattanach added, “It’s been brilliant writing, recording and playing Moler shows again, especially catching up with the old Mole Patrollers and meeting some new ones.”

Following a free, all-ages show at the Desert Highways record store in Reservoir, Victoria, last month, Moler will perform alongside Redd Kross and Hard-Ons and play an album launch show this month.
