Modest Mouse To Reissue Two Classic Albums

6 September 2014 | 3:29 pm | Staff Writer

'This Is A Long Drive...' and 'The Lonesome Crowded West' get new life from next month

US indie rock veterans Modest Mouse have announced that they will be reissuing two of their classic albums, 1996's This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About and 1997's The Lonesome Crowded West, via frontman Isaac Brock's aptly named Glacial Pace imprint (and Fat Possum Records), from next month.

The albums have respective release dates of October 28 and November 4 in the States, and other than 2009 EP No One's First And You're Next, the reissues mark the first full-length releases from Modest Mouse since 2007's We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank, which came out so long ago that Johnny Marr was still in the band (and is still in all of their band photos, which — they really need to update their Facebook page).

The albums will see new life as double 180-gram vinyl LPs — the first time they've been available in the format in more than ten years — and, as cherries on top, Brock and co. will be dropping a couple of 7" singles with unreleased material from the '96 and '97 studio sessions.

The first (This Is A Long Drive...) gives us a fledgling version of White Lies, Yellow Teeth and an unused version of the Interstate 8 EP's Buttons To Push The Buttons. On The Lonesome Crowded West's 7", you'll find B-side track Too Many Fiestas For Reuben, and an old version of Cowboy Dan.

It's not a new full-length, sure, but it's the best we're going to get until we see one. Enjoy the stream of old-school White Lies, Yellow Teeth below.
