Melbourne/Naarm has received its first ever floating, open-air club and event space named ATET.
ATET is nearing completion, having received the Green Light from the city of Melbourne and is opening this Spring. The concept for the space is five years in the making and aims to breathe new life into the Docklands precinct while becoming a home for electronic music.
The venue is two stories and will fit 550 revellers who will have sweeping views of Melbourne's skyline across Victoria Harbour. It is also mobile and while it will be permanently moored in Docklands this summer, the owners have plans to relocate and venture into Port Philip Bay for event in the near future.
“ATET has been created as a unique social experience built around community and creative culture – and it wouldn’t have been possible without the initial support of 130 loyal supporters from the electronic music community who have helped fund the project from its inception,” said Jake Hughes, the brains behind ATET and a DJ and architect himself.
“ATET is more than just a bar on water – we are channelling the open-air day party experience of festivals and day clubs around Europe and providing it on a regular basis in the heart of Melbourne. There is a sense of freedom induced by this environment that can’t be replicated indoors. It’s also the reason behind the venue’s name. In ancient Egyptian mythology, ATET was said to be the solar barge of the sun god Ra, which would travel through the sky every day providing light to the world."
The outdoor space is capable of being completely enclosed and is lined with programmable pixel strip LED lighting to create a surreal sensory experience.

ATET is moored on North Wharf beneath the Bolte Bridge towers, meaning it is highly accessible yet uniquely secluded.
The setting just feels completely surreal. You have the dramatic backdrop of the Bolte Bridge on one side and uninterrupted waterfront views of the city skyline on the other. You’re walking distance from the city yet there’s no one here. There’s a strange sense of privacy. It just feels like a place that time left behind. It’s pretty special.”
