Melb Muso Maribelle Signs Global Publishing Deal With Universal

Up-and-coming young Melburnian producer/singer-songwriter Maribelle has secured a worldwide deal with Universal Music Publishing Australia in the wake of her acclaimed 2016 EP Overtake.

Announcing the news today alongside UMP ANZ president Andrew Jenkins, vice-president of creative Arwen Curson was noticeably enthusiastic about the signing, singing the artist's praises liberally in a statement.

"MARIBELLE IS SO GOOD!" Curson said. "As an artist, she is fierce: killer voice, the perfect amount of sass and some pretty amazing moves to boot.

"As a writer, she's one of those people you'd feel comfortable putting in the studio with anyone; she's versatile, fast and appears to have a never-ending ocean of hooks and ideas to draw from.

"There is gifted, and then there's Maribelle. Needless to say, we are thrilled to have her join the UMPG family."

Universal's publishing umbrella already looks after the likes of Bag Raiders, Elizabeth Rose, Jessica Mauboy, Guy Sebastian, Gang Of Youths, The Veronicas, Woodes, Peking Duk and heaps more, placing Maribelle in uniformly esteemed company as a member among their ranks.

Maribelle — who also serves as the head of Crush Club, "a label dedicated to showcasing the new class of electronic talent" — comes to UMPG following a meteoric rise that has seen her nab triple j airplay, support both GoldLink and Kaytranada on their Australian tours, and step out at both FOMO Festival and as support on Illy's national Two Degrees tour.

She is understandably jazzed about the deal, saying in a statement: "I'm so excited to be signing with UMPG. The team has been very inspiring and supportive. I'm confident that we're going to write some great records together."

Given the quality of her work to date, odds are she would have written some great records regardless, but the extra support is undoubtedly a nice thing to have.

Maribelle is in Sydney tonight, 29 March, playing Sosueme at Beach Road Bondi alongside Sequel, Ivey, DJ Deer, Sports, Mowgli May, Soft Hands and Dilary Huf. The show is free and kicks off from 8pm.
