Self-Proclaimed Originator of ‘Post-Punk Laptop Rap’ MC Lars Announces the Release of His Highly Anticipated LP This Gigantic Robot Kills – Out April 25th , 2009 on Taperjean Records/Shock Features The New Single Guitar Hero Hero New York, NY – Self-proclaimed originator of “post-punk laptop rap” MC Lars announces the release of his highly anticipated new LP This Gigantic Robot Kills, out nationally April 25th 2009 from Taperjean Records/Shock.
The Australian release features 3 exclusive bonus tracks as well as the single “ Guitar Hero Hero ( Beating Guitar Hero Doesn’t Make You Slash)” featuring Paul Gilbert from Mr Big. This Gigantic Robot Kills is MC Lars’ first LP in three years and his second full-length studio album as MC Lars. The title of the album is a tribute to Wesley Willis, who MC Lars has been giving props (respect) to since his early recordings, stating Willis as a major influence upon him. Willis appeared at the end of "Yes, I am an Alien" (on Radio Pet Fencing MC Lars’ first full-length CD released in 2003 under the moniker Lars Horris) saying at the end of the song "Lars Horris, I like your song, I'm gonna write a song about you. I'll probably write it on my next rock and roll record for it is called This Gigantic Robot Kills."
In the thanks list for Radio Pet Fencing, MC Lars writes "Wesley Willis (we'll work the demons, man)." Wesley died shortly after. The new album features 14 songs, two previously released singles and fan favorites, “Hipster Girl” and “White Kids Aren’t Hyphy,” two from 2007 that Lars did with Wheatus front man Brendan B. Brown “True Playa For Real” (featuring “Weird Al” Yankovic” on accordian and co-written by Brown) and “Twenty-Three” (engineered by Brown), and the remaining 10 were written and recorded in early 2008 when MC Lars assembled an all-star roster of artists to contribute their talents on the record.
The album features contributions from the Rondo Brothers, Mike Kennedy of Vision of Disorder, Pierre Bouviere of Simple Plan, MC Bat Commander of The Aquabats, Suburban Legends, Gabriel Saporta of Cobra Starship, Brett Anderson of The Donnas, MC Frontalot, Jesse Dangerously, Linus Dotson of Size 14, Parry Gripp of Nerf Herder, Jonathan Coulton, and Sebastian Reynolds. It was in 1998 that MC Lars decided to combine his love of hip hop with his love of punk music on his laptop computer and as a result, his unique blend of laptop rap was born. Since then, he has released three Lars Horris albums, two full-length studio albums as MC Lars and two EP’s (including The Green Chistmas EP), performed with artists including Say Anything, Gym Class Heroes, Simple Plan, The Matches and Test Icicles, toured the US, UK, Europe, Australia, and Japan and has emerged as one of the pioneering artists at the forefront of the new musical genre dubbed as “nerdcore” along with mc chris and MC Frontalot.
