Did Anyone Else Notice This Aussie '70s Pop Star On 'Preacher' Last Night?

In case you missed it...

We expected some Australian references somewhere on this season of Preacher given that it was filmed locally but no one would have seen this coming.

On last night's episode of the AMC series, Overture, we recognised one particular character as none other than Australian '70s pop star Marty Rhone.

For fans of the show who may have watched the episode, Rhone appeared as the prison priest who indirectly inspired Eugene to want to be a rock star; for those unfamiliar with Preacher, seriously what are you doing, it's the fourth and final season, get a move on.

The Sydney songwriter had two massive hits in the '70s - Denim & Lace (1975) and Mean Pair Of Jeans (1977) - which peaked at #2 and #10 respectively in Australia.

Rhone has been known to dip his toes into the world of TV soaps previously (anyone here remember Class of 75, Certain Women or Number 96? Ask your grandparents, they'll know) or even tread the boards (Godspell back in the day). But no one expected to see the singer who once hosted a youth rally for Pope John Paul II to be giving advice to a hell-escapee with an arse for a mouth in Preacher.

More recently, Rhone has performed tribute shows around the country while he is also set to release a new single, Jealous Of The Sky, this week.

Preacher is streaming on Stan now.
