They'll play a limited run of three shows later this year

More Manchester Orchestra More Manchester Orchestra

Hirsute 'n' huggable Georgia-based rock outfit Manchester Orchestra have announced that they will return to Australia this November for a three-date east-coast tour.

The jaunt is taking place in commemoration of newly released fourth LP Cope (available now), which was self-produced with assistance from long-time collaborator Dan Hannon and mixed by Dinosaur Jr, Kurt Vile, The Thermals and Sonic Youth recording veteran John Agnello.

Manchester Orchestra will touch down in Brisbane first, hitting the Hi-Fi on November 12, before progressing to the Corner Hotel in Melbourne the following evening and finishing up on November 15 at Sydney's Metro Theatre.

A fan pre-sale will be held from 2pm (local time) today, July 2, and last until 5pm on Friday, July 4, or until sold out. Brisbane fans head here (your password is COPE), Melbourne fans here, and Sydney punters over here to nab your ticket (neither Melbourne nor Sydney requires a password).

Tickets will be made available for general purchase on Monday, July 7.

The album is, for those who've been paying attention since 2006's quintessential debut I'm Like A Virgin Losing A Child, an organic evolution of sound and mission that sees frontman Andy Hull and his compatriots edge further into the perilous landscape of involuntary maturity.

“Cope, to me, means getting by. It means letting go, and being OK with being OK,” Hull said in a statement. “You can cope in a positive way when bad things happen, or a negative way, and that blend was a big lyrical theme for me on this album.

“We wanted to make the kind of album that's missing at this time in rock: something that's just brutal and pounding you over the head every track … Whereas [2011 album] Simple Math was a different palate with each song, a different colour, I wanted this to be black and red the whole time.”
