M.I.A. is heading to Australia this October for Adelaide’s Harvest Rock festival, and today, she’s announced some sideshows to accompany her festival performance.

The pioneering rapper, singer, producer, and activist has long been a household name, thanks to her boundless creativity and seamless blend of hip-hop, electronic, and punk genres. Today, the British-Sri Lankan artist continues to inspire with genre-defying songs.

Set to appear at Adelaide’s Harvest Rock Festival on Saturday, 25 October, fans can also catch her at Melbourne’s Forum on Sunday, 26 October, and Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Wednesday, 29 October. The shows mark her first stops in Australia since 2018.

Fans can purchase pre-sale tickets via tour promoters Secret Sounds on Monday, 1 September, at 10 am local time – register here to access those tickets. The general sale will be available on Tuesday, 2 September, at 12 pm local time via the Secret Sounds website.

M.I.A. caught the public’s ear with her debut album Arular, released in 2005. However, it was her 2008 hit Paper Planes that solidified her as a household name and catapulted her to the world stage, earning Grammy nominations and inspiring a generation of new artists.

Since then, she has released influential albums, including Kala and Matangi, where she experimented with beats, sampling, and socially charged lyrics that spotlighted issues such as migration and identity.

More recently, M.I.A. dropped the album MATA in 2022. The album saw her write music throughout 2020 and 2021, personally producing several tracks from home and Rick Rubin’s Malibu studio, and collaborating with artists such as Pharrell, Diplo, Rex Kudo, Switch, Troy Baker, T-Minus, and more.

She said of the record, “On some songs, I’m trying to escape and come back to my old style of writing and production. 50% of the album is me holding on to what I am. The other half of the record is joining a bigger discussion about what I am, because it’s not about the same comfort zone.”
