“I still don’t think I’ve processed it, to be honest,” Luude said in a video posted to social media.

You may have seen Luude perform at Darwin’s BASSINTHEGRASS festival and triple j’s One Night Stand in Busselton this month, but overall, it’s fair to say that the Australian EDM star has been pretty quiet of late.
He revealed why on Instagram last week, sharing a heartbreaking tribute to his father, who recently passed away. Telling fans that he’d been putting off sharing a video like the one he posted, Luude informed followers that his father recently passed away from pancreatic cancer.

After returning to Australia from a lengthy tour of Europe, the DJ received a call from his mum while in the car from the airport, where he received the news that his father had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Luude Googled the diagnosis (“don’t ever Google it,” he advised viewers) and found out that his dad may have two years to live. For his dad, it ended up being six months.
Expressing how healthily his dad lived his life, Luude continued, “For him to get it, it made no sense at all. Then you slowly see your father, your best mate, just slowly fade away over these months. Every time I’d go and see him—it’s hard to see your dad be sick—he was hopeful, and then, life happens.”
Two days after Luude went to Istanbul and spoke to his father on the phone, who sounded fine, he had passed away. “I still don’t think I’ve processed it, to be honest,” he said. “But I have had a break… he’s the one who got me into music, he was my biggest supporter of music, he got me a drumkit when I was four years old—that’s how I got into music, because he wanted a click track!”
Luude had the type of father who told him to “just go for it” and follow his music dreams. Throughout the video, he shared footage of his dad, happy and smiling, and ended the clip by sharing that he’s been working on new music.
The video cut off at the end, but Luude added in the comments: “It’s cut off the last bit of the video because it was to long but basically thankyou everyone who has sent msgs over the last month means a lot. Keen to show u guys all the new stuff been working on keen to finish the year on a good one ❤️”.
The Music sends condolences to Luude and his family.
Last July, Luude announced the launch of his very own record label, No Instruction, championing a new generation of EDM masterminds.
Luude himself vouched that he and his crew want to “throw good parties [and] put out records we like from people we like”, and “have a good crack at doing all those things as best and big as possible”.
