Lorde has scrubbed her social media presence and website and is now teasing what appears to be new music.

The Green Light singer shared a 15-second snippet of unreleased music on TikTok overnight (10 April). In the video, she walks through New York City’s Washington Square Park (per Rolling Stone) and sings in her unconventional, introspective signature style, “Since I was 17/ I gave you everything/ Now we wake from a dream/ Well baby, what was that?”

Anchored by the synth-pop music associated with her first two albums, 2013’s Pure Heroine and 2017’s Melodrama (and her first EP, The Love Club), Lorde seems to be well and truly planning a comeback with music the world loves from her.

You can watch the video below.

If Lorde is planning the release of a new album, it will follow 2021’s Solar Power. A different release for the singer, for her third album, Lorde experimented with psychedelic rock and indie folk stylings, opting for acoustic guitar arrangements rather than bombastic beats—a far cry from her previous efforts.

Since the release of Solar Power, Lorde has remained pretty quiet on the new music front. However, she shocked fans last year when Charli XCX nabbed her for a remix of Girl, so confusing, which features on the deluxe edition of Brat: Brat and it’s the same but there’s three more songs so it’s not.

Last year also saw Lorde record a cover of Take Me To The River for the Talking Heads tribute album Everyone’s Getting Involved. More recently, she collaborated with Marlon Williams on the song Kāhore He Manu E from Williams’ first-ever Māori language album, Te Whare Tīwekaweka, which was released last week.

Lorde last toured Australia in March 2023.

Playing shows in support of Solar Power, The Music’s Michael Prebeg said of her show at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl, “It’s noticeable that the version of Lorde on stage tonight is older, wiser, more confident and more secure. She tells the audience, ‘I feel a little bit more connected and calmer. I’m happy, and I feel really proud to sit in front of you and say that.’”
