"We lost a big singer, writer and performer on the weekend."

The singer of Indigenous rock band The Lonely Boys has passed away after "a pedestrian accident" on the weekend.

In a statement released today, Skinnyfish Music confirmed that the accident occurred on Saturday night on the Roper Highway near the 36-year-old’s hometown of Ngukurr in the Northern Territory.

"We lost a big singer, writer and performer on the weekend," Skinnyfish Music's Michael Hohnen said.

"He was extremely talented, and artistic. He was everything a frontman can be - exhilarating, entertaining, commanding, chaotic, wild and confident.

"We are distressed and upset and are thinking of all the families in the South East Arnhem region as they process this loss."

The six-piece outfit garnered national attention after being announced as the support act at Queens Of The Stone's Darwin concert last year, while they also performed at this year's Barunga Festival.
