Lady GagaAfter two sold-out nights at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium this month, Lady Gaga has been immortalised with an epic mural.
Painted by Melbourne-based artist Ling, the mural spotlights Gaga’s recent MAYHEM Ball Australian tour dates, featuring dramatic black-and-white colours and an impressive image of Gaga herself.
Sharing a time-lapse video on Instagram, the Marvel Stadium account said, “We live for the applause. Lady Gaga is now permanently captured on the walls of Marvel Stadium, celebrating two unforgettable nights where Little Monsters made history.”
Fans can find the mural at Gate 9, Level 1 of the stadium.
Gaga joins amazing murals of Metallica and Oasis, also located throughout Marvel Stadium, following the metal icons’ one-night stand and the Britpop heroes’ three-night extravaganza.
Lady Gaga just concluded her first Australian tour in eleven years in support of her latest album, MAYHEM. She performed in stadiums in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, with additional nights announced before the shows to keep up with extraordinary demand.
The shows featured 31-song setlists – some tracks shortened, others extended – comprising a solid representation of MAYHEM tracks, plus fan favourites and enduring hits. And, of course, there was plenty of drama. Highlights included Abracadabra, Poker Face, Paparazzi, Applause, Born This Way, Vanish Into You, Bad Romance, How Bad Do U Want Me, and more.
In July, Melbourne band Thornhill paid tribute to Gaga with a performance of Paparazzi for triple j’s Like A Version.
Putting their own spin on the song, which included shoegaze-inspired guitar riffs in the verses, Jacob Charlton’s smooth falsetto, and a crushing chorus, Thornhill took things to another level in the bridge, with Charlton sharing a screamed section as the band transformed Paparazzi into a heavy banger.
In their interview with triple j about the performance, the band confirmed that they love R&B and pop music from the 2000s and that they’re Lady Gaga’s “little monsters,” adding that her music is “timeless.”
