More Thornhill More Thornhill

Three years after they covered the Muse classic Supermassive Black Hole for triple j’s Like A Version, Thornhill returned to the ABC studios with another iconic 2000s tune.

Reviving the Punk Goes Pop concept, the Melbourne band performed Lady Gaga’s Paparazzi.

Putting their own spin on the song, which included shoegaze-inspired guitar riffs in the verses, Jacob Charlton’s smooth falsetto, and a crushing chorus, Thornhill took things to another level in the bridge, Charlton sharing a screamed section as the band transformed Paparazzi into a heavy banger.

In their interview with triple j about the performance, the band confirmed that they love R&B and pop music released in the 2000s, and that they’re Lady Gaga’s “little monsters,” adding that her music is “timeless.”

While they were in the ABC studios, they also performed the track nerv from their latest album BODIES. You can watch the performances and interview below.

On X (formerly known as Twitter), Thornhill added: “We covered @ladygaga’s Paparazzi for @triplej Like a Version. Go watch it now and @ Lady Gaga so we can get tickets to see her in Melbourne lmao.”

In follow-up posts, they continued: “fr pls @ her so we can blow up and afford to tour fr.

“if you think we are joking we will quit so try me.”

The Music’s Tyler Jenke described BODIES as a “rich and mellifluous album that revels in lush textures and the bold aesthetics only Thornhill can deliver.

“Intense, creative, and steeped in their unique blend of ingenuity, it’s a record which sees the band in full flight, going headfirst into authenticity and evolution without alienating their fanbase or forgetting why they got into the world of music to begin with.

“Put simply, it’s a tremendous album that is the result of plenty of hard work for the quartet, and one which they’re clearly very proud of.”

Meanwhile, in The Music’s recent op-ed exploring the growth of Australia’s heavy music scene, award-winning journalist, presenter, publicist and lifelong metal fan Tiana Speter said Thornhill’s swoon-worthy take on alt-rock is what continues to win them fans.
