What a weekend for Kylie Minogue. Her new album, Tension, has debuted atop three charts in Australia – the ARIA Albums Chart, the Australian Albums Chart, and the Vinyl Albums Chart.
In the UK, the Can’t Get You Out Of My Head singer locked in her ninth #1 album, outselling the rest of the top five albums in the UK combined for the top spot.
“Baby can’t you feel that my heart is beating… TENSION is NUMBER ONE in the UK and AUSTRALIA,” Minogue wrote on Twitter overnight, accompanied by a video of herself holding the UK #1 award. “THANK YOU to everyone who bought it, streamed it and made it YOURS … I am in awe of the love and support you’ve shown me. I will hold on to this moment forever!!”
ARIA CEO Annabelle Herd commented on Minogue’s success in Australia, crowning her the “queen”:
“All hail the queen. On behalf of everyone at ARIA, and as a superfan, it is my absolute pleasure to congratulate Kylie for her fourth consecutive #1 album debut. It’s a thrill to see an ARIA Hall of Fame artist continue to dominate, reinvent and represent Australian music on such a global scale. We can’t wait to celebrate her success at this year’s awards.”
Tension is Minogue’s eighth #1 album in Australia, following 2000’s Light Years, 2001’s Fever, X in 2007, Kiss Me Once in 2014, Golden in 2018, Step Back In Time: The Definitive Collection in 2019 and Disco in 2020.

Elsewhere on this week’s ARIA Albums Chart, Holy Holy debuted at #4 with their new collaborative album Cellophane, while nabbing the #2 spot in the Australian Albums Chart, followed by deathcore outfit Thy Art Is Murder at #3 on the same chart with new album Godlike.
The three Aussies – Kylie Minogue, Holy Holy, and Thy Art Is Murder – also feature in the Top Vinyl Albums Chart, locking in #1, #2 and #4, respectively.
In The Music’s 4.5 star review of Tension, reviewer Bryget Chrisfield wrote, “Tension is a chic collection of songs to help us pull in da club, soundtrack all-night raves and make our hearts sing/go Padam Padam.”
