Kurt Cobain Documentary To See Limited Aussie Release This Year

'Montage Of Heck' hits big screens Down Under in May

The eagerly awaited first official documentary on the life of tragic grunge-rock icon Kurt CobainCobain: Montage Of Heck, will be released in cinemas across Australia for a limited run in May this year, it has been confirmed.

In the wake of the release of the film's heartbreaking trailer earlier this month — not to mention acclaimed screenings at events such as Sundance Film Festival — hopes were high that it would see an official antipodean release, and now we know that to be the case — Montage Of Heck will come to Australian cinemas on 7 May, just three days after its premiere in the United States, on celebrated cable channel HBO.

The finer details — how many screens, where they might be, how long we can expect the film to stay in cinemas — are yet to be publicised, but the knowledge alone that we'll have the chance to see the film in its full-size form, replete with post-credits exclusive interview footage with director Brett Morgen discussing the creation of the documentary. Cobain's daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, is executive producer of the film — the first fully authorised production of its kind, and a co-production of Universal Pictures International Entertainment Content Group and HBO Documentary films.
